Il Colosseo is an Italian restaurant situated in the heart of Hasselt where you can enjoy some pretty great pizza or pasta. I have visited Il Colosseo several times already and my previous experiences were excellent. Il Colosseo makes one of the best pizzas, according to me and their pastas are good too.

I already wrote a small paragraph about Il Colosseo in the blog post "More: Limburg" but I wanted to write about my last experience at Il Colosseo this January too. I went together with my boyfriend and his friends to celebrate his 20th Birthday. We all ordered a pizza except for my boyfriend who ordered Pappardelle with a mildly spicy tomato sauce, chicken and mushrooms (€18), from the suggestion board. The rest of our order consisted of; a pizza Parmiggiana which had mozzarella, eggplant and parmigian cheese (€14), two pizzas Diavola which is a regular pizza with spicy salami on it and two pizzas Margherita.

I enjoyed the pizza with eggplant but more because of the delicious cheese that was on it and not specifically for the eggplant, which was the only topping on it. For me personally they could have seasoned the eggplant a bit better to give it some flavour because now it was a bit tasteless. My boyfriend's pasta was good too but not amazing. You could clearly see that they cooked the pasta and afterwards waited too long to add the sauce to it, because all the strings were stuck to each other. The taste however was good and the spicyness was mild, as indicated in the description, which I liked. The rest of the boys enjoyed their pizzas and all scored them a 7 out of 10.

For me, this visit was a bit of a dissapointment because I have tasted more delicious pizza at Il Colosseo before, that were better compared to this one. The service was good too, all waitresses were very polite and ready to help. The only thing, we all found a bit strange, was that the waitresses didn't use any trays to carry our drinks out. We all ordered an aperitif, at the beginning of the night, but they were served to us with 2-5 minutes waiting time in between all of them, plus they were carried out 2 by 2. I think they should really start using a tray, as for big groups as ours it can take 3 to 5 times to serve all drinks to the table.

Even though this one experience wasn't the best, according to me, I will still visit Il Colosseo in the future as I know they can do better than this and I'm sure they will next time.

A bientƓt!
